Termite work is priced per property, because the treatment depends on construction type, soil conditions and how established the colony is. Subterranean termites nest underground and cause almost all serious damage in Sydney. Drywood termites live inside dry timber and are uncommon here. The distinction matters because each needs a different treatment.

For termites, the Australian Standard recommends a timber pest inspection at least every twelve months, and more often for properties in high-risk areas or with a history of activity. This is different to a general pest spray, which does nothing to termites. If you have a chemical barrier in place, it needs re-checking at the end of its rated life, and baiting systems are monitored on a set cycle. A timber pest inspection on an average Sydney home takes about one and a half to two hours, covering the interior, roof void, subfloor, garage and the garden within thirty metres of the building. Installing a chemical soil barrier usually takes most of a day and involves trenching and drilling around the perimeter. A baiting system goes in within a couple of hours, then runs over months while the colony feeds. You get the report and findings in writing.

Termite work uses termiticides registered with the APVMA for that specific purpose, applied by a licensed technician under the label conditions. Soil barriers use a liquid termiticide applied to trenched and drilled areas around the building. Baiting systems use a growth regulator in a bait matrix rather than a broadcast spray, so there is far less product around the property. Your technician records the product name, batch and rate on the paperwork, and safety data sheets are available on request.

Clear access around the outside of the building, especially along fence lines and behind sheds, and move stored boxes away from the garage and subfloor entry. Unlock side gates and make sure the roof void manhole is reachable, as an inspection is limited to what the technician can safely access.
