Possums and rats from the headland reserves
The bushland at Dee Why Head and along the Long Reef headland reserve puts possums and roof rats against the rooflines of the streets nearest the reserve. Possums are protected: under NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service licence conditions a trapped possum must be released unharmed, after sunset, on the property of capture and within 150 metres. Proofing the roof is the real fix.
How the Local Geography Shapes the Work
Dee Why sits between the ocean and the lagoon, and both ends of that leave a mark on buildings. Salt-laden air corrodes screens, weep hole covers, flashings and vents, and every one of those is an entry point once it fails.
